Gawuna/Garo: A Fusion of Passion and Action

By Aminu Dahiru
I was recently discussing Kano politics with a friend with whom I graduated from the same high institution of learning here in Kano State, when he asked me one vital question: “It’s now a few months to the 2023 elections. What Gawuna/Garo ticket has to offer to Kano State?” he asked. He knows my passion for the ticket; but despite that he has raised a critical question that needs to be addressed here.
From all indications Kano State is now a moving train His Excellency Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has set in motion. We all have to put into consideration the human and infrastructural developments, including the educational and health revolution, ongoing in the state. The state government’s scorecard is dotted with A’s in many aspects.
This, among others, was what prompted my friend to ask the question. I believe he must have been concerned with the fate of the state as Governor Ganduje bows out in 2023, which is a few months ahead.
It struck me as patriotic. Kanawas must ask critical questions and subject any person showing interest to lead them in 2023 to intense scrutiny. To be fair to ourselves, we should not allow our wishes and caprices to cloud our reasoning.
Those who have the state in mind have once and again suggested that issue-based campaigns should be given pride of place in the build up to the 2023 governorship election in the state. What they mean is this: track records, personality, patriotism, passion and action should be the criteria to determine who becomes governor in 2023; but mark you, Gawuna/Garo ticket is a fusion of passion and action. In simple terms it is a combination of patriotism, right attitudes to work and the desire to act.
This union of Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo put together by Governor Ganduje after extensive consultations and deliberations is deliberate. No sincere leader will allow what he toiled for to fall into ruin after leaving office. The governor needs party loyalists with a burning passion for the state, who will act fast and accurately to keep the wheel he has set in motion moving.
One, recently during an interview on NTA’s “Political Update”, the Deputy Governor and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, said that he has the requisite experience to govern the state.
Gawuna has served three administrations in the state in different capacities. As a two-term former local government chairman, Commissioner for Agriculture and currently the deputy governor of the state, he has the capacity to lead and he has demonstrated his passion for the development of Kano State in many instances. He is a bridge-builder who will perfect Governor Ganduje’s blueprint for Kano State by connecting and reconciling opposing parties in the state.
Second, Alhaji Mutrtala Sule Garo is a symbol of youth and women empowerment. Even though Dr. Gawuna will have the final call, he needs a committed person by his side who will act fast and accurately for the success of the ‘Greater Kano project’. Garo’s quick reasoning ability and positive actions have made him one among millions. These qualities have helped in no small measure in materializing Ganduje’s ambition of making Kano youth an asset rather than a liability. In short he is a great human manager.
The pairing of Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and Alhaji Mutrtala Sule Garo is a fusion of passion and action that will take Kano State to a greater height.
